Kaiju, Zumi and Mika are some of our favorite customers — and it’s not just because Zumi is HDB Taste Testers Katsumi & Kuri Firefox‘s brother! 😆 Not only are they so cute and adorable, they also really love to celebrate birthdays!  Their Mom is always thinking up fun themes and ideas, but our very very favorite is the one we make for Kaiju.

For those of you who may not know, a Kaiju is Monster found in Japanese Films usually attacking cities or battling the military.  The most famous of the Kaiju is probably Godzilla:

As you can see, that is a pretty fiercesome looking creature! So when Kaiju’s Mom Tiare asked us to make a Kaiju cake, we thought um……errr…….I’m not sure we can make this….! It’s really crazy looking and detailed!  But we always love a challenge, so we thought and thought and suddenly we realized — wait a minute…if we can’t make the Kaiju himself, we could certainly make a scene for him to stomp through and destroy!!  We brought up the idea to Tiare and asked her if she could find a small toy Kaiju that looked like the monster they named their dog after.  She loved it, and set off to find the perfect toy to top the cake!

Meanwhile, we started researching the Kaiju.  We discovered that the original Godzilla was a monster from the sea who came on to the land to destroy the city.  We didn’t know if he actually ate people, but we decided that OUR Kaiju was going to.  We baked biscuit buildings to make a city for Kaiju to stomp through and little biscuit people for him to eat.

The first Kaiju cake we made was in 2015. Funny behind the scenes story…we were actually doing an Event in Hawaii Kai that day, and for some reason we couldn’t get the Kaiju toy earlier.  So we baked our cake, and frosted the base at the kitchen, and brought all the tools we needed to complete the cake on-site!

Tiare arrived with the Kaiju toy, and Niki got to work putting it all together!

Here’s a close up of the Kaiju toy…eating a person, of course! Isn’t he fierce??

Tiare, her husband Randy and of course the dogs Kaiju, Mika and Zumi LOVED the cake.  And we absolutely LOVED putting it together!  We all loved it so much, we did it again in 2016!  For the next year, we decided that Kaiju had left the oceanside and was now fully in the heart of the city.  The cops and military had gotten involved which meant buildings were now on fire.

Our absolute favorite cake…we think because of all the destruction involved? 😂😆 It’s just so much fun.  Can’t wait to make Kaiju’s cake for 2017!
